HyFlyers Chicago recap STORY image

BOLINGBROOK, Ill. - The regular-season finale at LIV Golf Chicago provided plenty of storylines for HyFlyers Golf Club, affecting everything from the upcoming Team Championship in Dallas to players’ eligibility for the 2025 season.

HyFlyers GC entered the week No. 12 in the season-long team standings and was out of the race to earn a bye for the first round at this week’s Team Championship. But there was plenty to play for when it came to individual players trying to earn status for 2025.

Brendan Steele, winner of LIV Golf Adelaide, held the projected No. 24 position in the Lock Zone entering Sunday in Chicago. The Lock Zone guarantees a player’s spot for the 2025 season. In the final round, Steele shot 2-under 68, finished T30 in the event and remained at No. 24 in the final individual standings and inside the Lock Zone.

Teammate Cameron Tringale began the week No. 26 and in the Open Zone, which consists of spots Nos. 25-88, and players that land there can be potentially traded or released by their team. Tringale needed to move up two spots to finish in the Lock Zone. He finished T34 in Chicago, No. 28 in the final individual standings and in the Open Zone.

Andy Ogletree had a huge hill to climb, entering No. 33 and in the Open Zone. He finished Chicago in T40 place and at No. 34 in the final individual standings. That kept him in the Open Zone, where he can potentially be traded or released.

Captain Phil Mickelson, who finished No. 46 in the final individual standings, will now set his team’s sights on the Team Championship in Dallas at Maridoe Golf Club.

Overall, the team finished No. 12 out of 13 teams in the season-long team standings. At the Team Championship, the three top teams in the final team standings earned first-round byes and automatically qualified for Saturday’s semifinals.

The 10 teams seeded No. 4-13, including HyFlyers GC, will compete in five quarterfinal matches on Friday, with matchups determined at a live press conference featuring team captains during tournament week. The five winners of the opening match play round will then advance to the semifinals.

Also, to add strategy withing the competition, team captains may opt to participate in the singles and foursomes matchups during the first two days of match play.
