Phil Mickelson wasn’t going to let his team finish with a dud. And there’s still one more day for some more magic.

The captain for HyFlyers Golf Club posted back-to-back scores in the 60s to begin his week at LIV Golf Jeddah presented by ROSHN. Mickelson opened with a 69 on Friday and followed it with a 2-under 68 on Saturday to help his team grab the sixth-place spot on the team leaderboard in Jeddah.

Mickelson’s energy found its way to his team members, who played aggressively in Round 2 at Royal Greens Golf and Country Club. Cameron Tringale and Brendan Steele shot matching 5-under 65s to lead the way, and Tringale added the team’s lone eagle of the day when it came at the par-5 fourth hole.

How well did the team play overall on Saturday? James Piot shot a 1-under 69 and HyFlyers GC didn’t even need to use it as a counting score.

HyFlyers GC entered Saturday in eighth place on the Jeddah team leaderboard but moved to fifth entering the final round due to the fine overall play from every team member.

This week marks the end of the regular season, and a season-long individual champion will be crowned. And while no HyFlyers GC player is mathematically in the mix, the team can position itself nicely on the season-long team leaderboard with a nice finish. That will set up some interesting storylines at the Team Championship in Miami next week, where a team will walk away with the season’s team title.
