HYFLYERS GOLF CLUB: RECAP, LIV GOLF JEDDAH ROUND 1
It wasn’t perhaps as low as HyFlyers Golf Club wanted to go on Friday, but considering the tough conditions and tight leaderboard, things are positive entering the weekend.
After steady opening rounds from all four team members, HyFlyers GC finds itself in eighth place on the team leaderboard at LIV Golf Jeddah presented by ROSHN and just four off the lead.
This week marks the end of the regular season, and while it’s unlikely HyFlyers GC earns one of the quarterfinal byes for next week’s Team Championship in Miami, it can position itself nicely for a finish with which to be proud.
Captain Phil Mickelson came out aggressively on Friday and racked up five birdies much to the delight of the fans. He countered it with some bogeys but finished under par, carding a 1-under 69 entering Saturday. Mickelson is tied for 14th and just four off the lead.
Teammate Cameron Tringale had a similar round as Mickelson and shot 1-under 69, which included four birdies and three bogeys. Tringale entered the week 17th in the season-long team standings.
Brendan Steele was more of a steadying force on Friday, recording an even-par 70 with two birdies and two bogeys for the third and final counting score. James Piot shot 1-over 71 and looks to right the ship on Saturday.
