HyFlyers Golf Club will be looking at this week from 10,000 feet. In other words, focus on the big picture and not the short term.
It hasn’t been the year the team expected, but there is plenty to celebrate and be proud of as the regular season concludes this week at LIV Golf Jeddah presented by ROSHN.
HyFlyers Golf Club is currently ninth in the season-long team standings, and while it’s unlikely to secure one of the four quarterfinal byes, the team can point to a strong finish to the season with nice showings in Jeddah and the Team Championship in Miami next week.
It wasn’t too long ago when HyFlyers GC was positioning itself nicely for a late surge. The team had consecutive top-five finishes at LIV Golf Greenbrier and LIV Golf Bedminster but followed it up with an 11th-place finish at LIV Golf Chicago. Still, a bounce-back performance at Jeddah isn’t out of the question considering the team has four top-six finishes this year.
Cameron Tringale has led the way this season and enters Jeddah in 17th place in the individual standings, followed closely by teammate Brendan Steele (18th). Both players have been clutch in contributing scores when they are needed most.
Captain Phil Mickelson has had more than his share of bright moments in 2023 and enters the regular season finale having finished 10th just two events ago at LIV Golf Bedminster. As expected, there’s no giving up from one of the game’s greatest players of all time, and he put on quite a show recently at LIV Golf Chicago when he had a drive of 358.4 yards, his longest of the season.
Tringale can find some relief knowing he has already secured Lock Zone status, meaning he will finish in the top 24 of the individual season-long standings to secure his spot for the LIV Golf League 2024 season. Steele has a high probability of securing Lock Zone status.
Teammate James Piot will have some work to do this week. He is currently 47th in the standings and needs a high finish to avoid relegation.
