SUGAR GROVE, Ill. – Phil Mickelson bounced back in a big way Saturday at LIV Golf Chicago, carding a bogey-free 3-under 68 to inject HyFlyers Golf Club with some positive momentum entering the final round.

Mickelson was coming off a 4-over 75 on Friday, but he rebounded nicely at Rich Harvest Farms with birdies on Nos. 2, 7 and 16. To the delight of the crowd, the six-time major champion and World Golf Hall of Famer put on a show around the greens and was a perfect 6 for 6 in scrambling.

It wasn’t only a short-game show for the captain. Mickelson also drove the ball well and was eighth in driving distance average in Round 2 at 314.1 yards.

He received plenty of support from his teammates. Brendan Steele matched Mickelson’s 68 and had five birdies. He was tied for third on Saturday in greens in regulation, going 15 for 18.

James Piot provided the final counting score with a solid 2-under 69. The usually steady Cameron Tringale did not have his score count, but his 1-over 72 wasn’t too far away from making the grade and he is expected to finish strong as he usually does on Sundays.

Currently tied for 10th in the team standings this week, HyFlyers GC is looking to make a move in the season-long team standings after entering the week in the ninth spot. A good showing in the final round would accomplish that feat, and it’s to be expected considering the overall recent play from all team members.
