Preview

A short memory will go a long way for HyFlyers Golf Club as it looks to rebound at LIV Golf Las Vegas this week.

The team didn’t get off to the quick start it wanted at the season-opening LIV Golf Mayakoba, but a new venue and a fresh start will likely result in a positive result for the ultra-talented club. Captain Phil Mickelson had three counting scores last week, and his team was led by the always-steady Cameron Tringale and Brendan Steele, who both finished under par for the week.

The most intriguing storyline for the team continues to be Andy Ogletree, who Mickelson, Steele and Tringale agreed to target in the offseason. Ogletree had solid bookend rounds at Mayakoba, which combined for even par. And while his 8-over 79 on Saturday was one to forget, he can take solace in knowing many in the field were also struggling due to extremely tough scoring conditions.

A big positive came Sunday, when all four scores counted due to rule change in the offseason. HyFlyers GC avoided a big number and combined to finish 1 over on the day.

More of that will serve the team well at Las Vegas Country Club. It’s not the longest course, and more emphasis is placed on ball-striking and an on-point short game. This roster checks both those boxes, especially with Mickelson’s Hall of Fame credentials.
