SUGAR GROVE, Ill. – It wasn’t the start the HyFlyers Golf Club was looking for, but there’s still plenty of time to get things turned around and make a leap in the Midwest.
The HyFlyers GC finished Round 1 of LIV Golf Chicago in 11th place in the team standings with a combined score of 2-under par.
Cameron Tringale led the way with an impressive 3-under 68 in tough conditions and did not record a bogey, while teammate Brendan Steele (69) also shot under par despite not taking advantage of the par 5s. The final counting score was provided by James Piot who had some steady stretches, but four bogeys resulted in a 3-over 74.
Fans enjoyed an entertaining round from captain Phil Mickelson (75), who provided plenty of ‘wow’ moments from his three birdies, but the tough back nine at Rich Harvest Farms proved to be a challenge as Mickelson turns his focus to Round 2 on Saturday.
The HyFlyers GC entered the week ninth in the team standings, just 12 points behind the Smash Golf Club.
